Foto Friday: Where I upload all the recent pictures from my phone and share them with you!
Heck Yeah!
Daniel's dad found an Iron Maiden shirt. Daniel decides to try it on.

OGCJM
Practicing "Only God Can Judge Me" designs. I'm pretty sure I get to tattoo this on someone one day.

Laundromat
Our dryer has been broken for days. We decided to take every single bit of laundry to the laundromat and get everything washed and dried in one big swoop. I find laundromats strangely relaxing. They remind me of my childhood. Weird, I know.

Mobile Workstation
I also did a load of laundry at the mother in law's house. I found a wi-fi signal and set up shop at her kitchen table. Marking stuff off my to-do list, one email at a time!

Best Ever.
So delicious!

Remember the birdhouses my dad made? Well, after plenty of painting, sanding, painting over, thinking, more painting, and glossing here's what the smaller one looks like:

The Front

One of my favorite color combinations is blue and brown. Especially, a light blue and a chocolate brown. Pretty, pretty! The design around the opening and on the back are inspired by henna designs, which I've been doodling a lot lately. This birdhouse wasn't built in a way that you can open it up and clean it out every season, so I think it's better as a decorative piece.

What have I learned while painting this? Well, first I should decide exactly how I want it painted before starting to paint it. Second, power sanders are AWESOME!

The sun is so pretty this morning. And the grass is so green.

Viva Las Vegas!

The mission: a Welcome to Las Vegas sign, as large as possible, using sheets of foamcore insulation, sharpies, colored duct tape, and primer paint.
Vegas Sign 1
The reference and duct tape.

Vegas Sign 2
8 feet wide. I don't know how tall it was.

Vegas Sign 3
I decided to use Sharpies instead of painting the letters because I needed everything to be bright, bold, and crisp. Painting the letters would've taken too long. I had already procrastinated enough on this project. Here, it's about 2 hours before it's due.

Vegas Sign 4
Here's where a friend said, "Did you spell fabulous right?" and my heart skipped a beat.

Vegas Sign 5
& here it is in action. There are a couple of things I'd change, but I'm generally happy with it. It was definitely a learning experience. One of the lessons I learned was: use a yardstick, bygolly! Also: don't procrastinate!

On My Desk Wednesday

This week is crazy busy and well, just plain crazy. I don't know what's up, but things just seem to be breaking left and right around here. This weekend I dropped my BlackBerry and cracked the screen, one of our toilets has stopped flushing, I dropped one of my favorite drinking glasses, and now our dryer has stopped working. On top of all this, Mazzy's schedule is full with rehearsals for her recital tomorrow and Field Day at her school. So, I've not had any time to work on anything artistic (oh, I did make a huge Las Vegas sign, but that's for another post).

Never fear! I still have pictures to share! Not exactly stuff on my desk, but projects that I'm working on.

BirdhousesMy dad built these birdhouses a few months ago. I've finally got my hands on them so I can paint them and sell them. I have a self-imposed deadline of this coming Sunday to get at least one of the painted.

Topsy Turvy TomatoesI nerded out big time at Home Depot and bought a Topsy Turvy tomato planter. I LOVE LOVE LOVE garden grown tomatoes and hopefully I can grow my own this summer.

Teenage RobinsThe robins are growing up so quickly! I'm sure they're almost ready to leave the nest!

Monday Mail Call & Other Updates

Monday Mail CallI've recieved several ATCs in the mail recently. All from swaps on Swap-bot.com.

Mazzy's ArtWe were surprised to find out that Mazzy's drawing got to be published on the cover of her school's yearbook! I guess they asked the kids to draw what they wanted to be when they grew up, then picked one drawing from each grade. I'm so happy for my kiddo!

Hungry BabiesLook! The eggs have hatched and the babies are hungry! This photo was taken a few days ago; today I noticed their eyes have opened and they've almost doubled in size.

Paper Cut Peacock
An idea for a t-shirt. Did it the old fashioned way and cut the image out of paper.
Hotel Upson coming down
A historical building was knocked down last weekend. It's across the street from the tattoo shop, so it pretty much killed business that weekend. We sat around and watched it being torn down for hours.
Awkward Napping
Dexter is most comfortable sleeping like this. He isn't shy at all.

Like most people, my phone serves as a back-up camera whenever I can't find / am too lazy to find my regular camera. I think I should start sharing the images I've captured from week to week. Foto Friday, anyone?

On My Desk Wednesday

My last roadtrip was at the beginning of this year. I drove up to Huntsville, Alabama to hang out with my BFF, Amber and attend a wedding of an old friend. I remember telling Amber that I get really excited about driving long distances because then I get a chance to think, make plans, figure stuff out and all that. The reality is: I don't think of anything but the road.
But I did have an idea for a painting. An Alabama Pride tattoo design! It's taken a few weeks to actually sit down, draw it up, and figure out composition, etc. etc. but the end to this painting is near! I can feel it!
This is one of the bigger watercolor paintings I've done in a long while. The flower pedals are rather tedious but there's sort of a zen feeling that comes over me when I'm painting.

Tomorrow I start working on a large project for the local dance teacher. She's getting ready for her yearly May dance recital and I get to make a huge Las Vegas sign for her. I'll be sure to take pictures!

Here's something cute I came across the other day: the husband and Dexter taking a nap on the couch.
Naptime

Only Dexter heard me sneaking around with the camera.
