Been Awhile!

Apologies for the unexpected hiatus! My laptop got sick and stayed sick for two whole months! But I'm back, baby, and I'm showing off some art I've worked on lately. Please look forward to some new posts in the near future.
Last week's project: a family tree mural. About 7 hours total. 15 feet wide, 8 or 9 feet tall.

A commissioned piece for a newly opened hair salon. About 4 feet wide, 3 feet tall.

Tell me, what have I missed??? What's going on with you? :)

Just a Lil' Rose Sitta'

Well, this weekend was a bit of a bust as far as art-making goes, but I think I made up for it with this little painting. I painted this yesterday morning while hanging out in the studio.

Getting my Sketch On!

Yesterday I spent most of my art time working on a few sketches. Then I started thinking about early animation and how much I loved watching Looney Tunes an Merrie Melodies as a child. Next thing I know I was on Wikipedia researching the Top 50 Cartoons. I never really know where I'll end up when I start working on artwork!

It's October!

In an effort to get back into blogging, I've decided to challenge myself to make art every day in October! This idea came from tracibunkers.com and I'm looking forward to where this challenge may take me.

Of course, right after I decide to do this, my computer gets some weird virus and is need of repair. So  it looks like I'll only be posting Instagram photos for awhile.

Here's what I have to show for the first three days of October:

Commission: Watercolor Portrait

Last week an Etsy customer asked if I could do a portrait of her sister in Day of the Dead costume. While I don't think I'm an amazing portrait artist, I do welcome a challenge. I sent the client a sketch, she approved, and I started painting!

I have to mention that this has been one of the easiest commissions I've ever worked on. She was so accepting to my ideas and responded to every question within moments. This was such a positive piece to work on!

If you'd like to commission me for artwork, feel free to contact me!

Back in the Studio Again

Since my kiddo started school again I've been able to get back into a studio routine. Yesterday I cleaned up a few things then make a couple of block prints. I don't have a drying rack, so I just tape the prints on the wall to dry.

I carved this block last year, I think? It could've been in 2010, I can't remember. I just know that I don't have any good prints from it.

Once I get everything packaged, I'll add some prints to my Etsy shop

Shark Week!

Sometimes you have an idea and it's so good you just have to paint it. This is one of those times.

101 Dalmatians Kids Set

I've been working on the set for the Thomaston Upson Arts Council's Annual Summer Theatre Production. This year's play is 101 Dalmatians Kids. I really enjoy the kids production because I can be big, bright, and bubbly with my work. Yesterday I finished up the scene for Cruella DeVil's Fur Vault, a room where she keeps the puppies and her furs. You can click on the photos to enlarge them.

The idea was to have a lot of puppies in this scene. Some kids in puppy costumes will be in front of this backdrop so I had to make sure the painted puppies were big enough to be noticed. And I couldn't make them too cute and happy since they are trapped.

I'll post picture from another scene once I get all the props finished for it.

Painting Progress: Bearded Lady

I love when an idea strikes you and it just works! Here's my most recent watercolor painting from start to finish:

A rough sketch.

Laying down the lines and the dark blacks.

And then everything else.

Stamped and done!

A close-up.

She's now listed in my Etsy shop.

If you're on Instagram, make sure to follow me! My username: Fawne. I post a lot of in-progress paintings. And sometimes a photo of myself and my dog, Dexter.

Happy Monday!

On My Summer Vacation

Well, this summer has definitely been busy! I haven't even thought about updating my blog. So in an effort to get back into blogging, here's a quick photo update on what I've been up to.
Painting the set for the summer production of 101 Dalmatians Kids.

Getting a booth set up at a local market place.

Drawing tattoo flash for TattooArcade.com. Just sort by artist and look for "Fawne DeRosia".

Practicing my grey shading abilities by copying a Sylvia Ji painting.

And making props for 101 Dalmatians Kids.

Where Does the Time Go?

It happens every summer: I get so caught up in summertime things that I forget about the good ol' blog!

Lately, I've been trying to paint little 5x7 paintings of tattoo flash. Here are the first five:

Small painting for a trade with another artist.

My framing guy totally knocked it out of the park with this one! My client will be super happy to see this!

I bought a hoot owl to watch over my studio. He's adorable. Perhaps he should have a name?

Little watercolor painting.

And another one.

It's Summer Reading Program Time Again!

This is the third year in a row that I've painted the library windows for their annual Summer Reading Program decorations. I'm usually just given the theme and a few images ideas and then told to run with it. Every year it gets better and better!
