Mazzy and I Make Art!

One afternoon Mazzy watched as I worked on some lino prints. She mentioned she wanted to do it too and I told her she'd have to wait until she's older since the tools I use are very sharp. Then I got an idea and asked her to draw on a linoleum block. I carved out her drawing and here you go! A print of her work! She specifically requested the pink ink. I'd like to make a few more prints and sell them in the shop, then buy her something pretty.

Mazzy Moleskine

I let Mazzy draw in my notebook one day. She made this beautiful scene with a princess, unicorns, birds, bunnies, flowers, butterflies, and a prince. Mazzy's really amazing with her drawing skills!

Plush You! Book

I haven't had a chance to mention this yet, but I've been published! A long time ago! I'm on page 66 of Plush You! Loveable Misfit Toys to Sew & Stuff. It's a cute little book full of softie inspiration.
My plush are made from felt, embroidery floss, and fabric paint. They're monsters from my haiku zine, Monster Haiku.
I hate that I lost my .com domain last summer. I hope to get it back one day without forking over a lot of money. I also hope folks can find my .net domain easily.

Good Evening

-June 22nd was my dad's 50th birthday. I gave him 4 tickets to the Cyclorama in Atlanta that I won the night before at a fundraiser. He thought it was a pretty neat gift and I hope he takes a Saturday off of work to enjoy learning about the Civil War.

-I got a pedicure on Friday and I'm so happy I did. I know it sounds silly to have someone else paint your toenails for you but man, my toesies look so good! I must indulge in some frivolous things in life, right? I messed up one of my toes on Saturday and I stopped by the nail salon this afternoon to get it fixed. The ladies at the salon are so nice!'

-I'm currently working on an idea to get a small business started. I'd like to paint kid's murals and I think I'd do a good job. I just need to get a few murals under my belt to make sure I can do it and how long each one would take & I do need photos for a portfolio.

-Monday morning Maz and I are flying to Michigan to visit my family for a week. I'm so excited and I can't wait. I've already packed Maz's bag!

  • A great week!
  • Going out to eat even though we said we wouldn't. It's only money.
  • Going to a fundraiser tomorrow night & plans to wear my fancy dress.
  • Going to see my parents this weekend.
  • Nine days before I leave for a week in Michigan!

& I totally bombed on my NaBloPoMo goal for this month. Oh well, getting sick after Art Camp was a total mess and I just didn't feel like blog-posting. Maybe next time?

Happy Father's Day

Ten Days Old

Here's a polaroid of baby me and my daddy. I just talked to him on the phone a few minutes ago and I wished him a Happy Father's Day. Next weekend we're celebrating his 50th birthday. I can't believe he's 50! I can't believe I'm 26! Wow!

I've had a mild fever all day but I'm pushing through and I've done all the laundry and ended up starting a new painting and printing 61 linocut prints. I'm getting ready for a shop update later this week so keep your eyes peeled for that. I thank Goody's Headache Powder for getting me through all that housework and artwork. I'm pretty sure I got strep throat from one of the kiddos at art camp. Or maybe it was one of those kids at the library when I was painting faces...hmm, who knows. It just sucks being sick.

Day Ten

Eggs
Today was spent away from home. I got up at 6:30 a.m. and taught at Art Camp all morning. Afterwards the Maz and I went out for lunch at Chili's, then we went to work at the gallery until 5. I came home to cook dinner and eat and see the husband for a little while. He left for work and Maz and I left to attend a photo club meeting. We got home around 9 p.m. and I immediately gave Maz a bath and put her to bed. Whoo! Busy day today! So I've really had no time to take a photo of the house so maybe you'll get double the fun tomorrow? Let's wait and see. For now here's a photo from a roll I had developed yesterday. It's a bowl of eggs sitting in my father-in-law's dining room.

Home - Day Nine

I was thisclose to not posting a picture today. I'm just soooo tired from the first day of Art Camp + visiting with family + other daily stuff. But I just sucked it up and took this shot after doing the dishes. I really like my sink and the window above it. The birdhouses were painted by Mazzy and there's a large feather and a willow tree figurine. There's also little plants that are growing, growing.

The first day of Art Camp was exciting and I wasn't as nervous as I was last year. I'm pretty sure most of the kids think I'm a total dork, haha.

Home - Day Seven

One corner of the dining room. You can see the side-door, some of my framed art, and the pretty windows facing the back yard. The windows are never covered since there's hardly a chance of anyone peeking in. I do love the afternoon light that seeps in around five p.m.

Home - Day Six

Here's what you see when you walk in the side door. Lots of brown! One day I'd like to re-do the whole kitchen and dining room, but that's not going to happen anytime soon. Things are a bit messy in there today since I'm getting ready for Art Camp next week. You can see the art supply pile on the counter on the left. The fridge is covered in kiddo ABC magnets and papers from school. There's also old pipes and stuff left over from the previous owners who had a washer/dryer right next to the fridge. One day we'll fix that, one day.

I'm Thankful For:

  • A few minutes of peace at work after a busy week.
  • Being able to paint faces at the library yesterday. Kids are really great, y'know?
  • My daughter being independant.
  • Air Conditioning!!! (Right now, my work's air is out and I cannot wait to go home to my nice cool air conditioning.)
  • Being able to hold on to some extra $$ and not spending it.

And friendship is a guest,
Is surely home, and home, sweet hom
For there the heart can rest.

Home - Day Four

Across from the windows. Our living room faces the east so every morning there an abundance of sunshine to begin our day. I love it and it's so peaceful. There's another mermaid lamp, houseplant, candles, and pictures of the kiddo on the wall. You can see the walls are painted a very, very light green. Most people don't notice it until they look at the white ceiling.

On my desk at work. I'm drawing a bug poster for my face painting gig tomorrow at the library. Instead of just asking the kid what they want I'm going to let them pick a bug. It'll save so much time. This year's Summer Reading Program theme is "Catch the Reading Bug" and it'll be my third year painting faces. I'm totally excited!

To the right of the pretty windows: The loveseat and side table with a mermaid lamp, houseplants, a candle, and plenty of magazines. The painting on the wall was done by my husband.

The windows in our living room. There's my Texas Star and our two soapstone deities. I didn't want heavy curtains over these windows since I really enjoy all the natural light that comes in.

Friday Gratitude and a New Project

I'm Thankful For:
  • the smell of the air after an afternoon rain shower.
  • time with my parents.
  • letting go and moving on.
  • letters and texts from friends when I need it.
  • cleaning up clutter.

And this month's NaBloPoMo theme is "Home". I hope to post at least once every day this month with a picture from around my house. This should be interesting...
