Lately and No Time

My lovely Dodge Neon hit 90 thousand miles about two weeks ago. She had 541 miles on it when I bought it. I've been to plenty of places in that baby.
Spring quarter of school started back up and I'm trying my best to find a routine. My math class is at 8 a.m. so that means I have to get up extra early to get ready, then wake Maz up to get her ready for school. It's hard sometimes, to get out of a warm, cozy bed before dawn. After class I hit the gym. After showering and lunch, it's time to get Maz from school. Then dinner & a bath for Maz and next thing I know it's time for bed.
Our weekends have been jam-packed lately. We've been attending some amazing shows in Atlanta and crawling back home at 4 a.m. It feels nice to hang out with people you enjoy. I usually say that I'm a loner and would rather sit at home with a book than go out, but truth is, I LOVE people. I love asking questions and hearing stories and cheering on your favorite band together. I love friendly smiles and inside jokes and smartass comments.
Life has been amazing lately and I've had no time to blog about it.

My First Magazine Appearance

I'm in Scoop Magazine!

In February I received an email from Scoop, a magazine based in Griffin, Georgia, asking if they could come by the very next day. So I had a mild freak-out, cleaned up my studio, and next thing I know the Managing Editor and the Photographer were sitting at my kitchen table. We talked and I showed them how I made a print from a carved lino block then they were gone. For many days afterward, I hoped, hoped, hoped they weren't planning on using my photo for the cover.

When I finally got my hands on an issue a month later I was pleased to not see my mug on the front. I mean, I like the publicity, but I don't think I'm quite a cover girl yet. But the photos of me on page 44 were awesome!

I'm so glad to be a part of this magazine! The staff at Scoop works hard to keep everyone in-the-know of all the events in Middle Georgia. You can download a .pdf of the March Handmade issue here. You'll find many more articles of artists and crafters in the area.

Yay Scoop!

DSLRs and First Day of Class

I've been thinking about getting a DSLR camera lately and a friend let me play with hers today. There's tons of bells and whistles and things to remember, etc. I was almost overwhelmed. I'm used to just clicking one button on my toy cameras and hoping for the best. My darling Mazzy was my model for many shots and this one is the best. I forgot to change the camera settings and messed up all the other photos. I still want my own DSLR. I'm going to have to save, save, save money!

This morning's math class was very interesting. I was absolutely dreading it all week. Well, I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed my teacher so much! She asked the class to talk about our troubles in math and when we thought they started. I actually raised my hand and told everyone about the teacher I had in middle school and how she pretended to have cancer (true story!), burned herself with curling irons to look sick, and was out a lot so her class was taught by substitutes (they didn't really teach, just handed out worksheets). I didn't learn a thing that semester and felt like I've had trouble in math ever since. I know I sounded crazy myself and it seems as though the entire class turned around and looked at me. Hah! I was proud of myself for speaking up (I'm always the quiet student) and not blushing. I'm now looking forward to learning, or even re-learning, math!

Spring Break!

Is almost over. Tomorrow I have to be up before dawn to attend the first day of my second quarter of school. I'm absolutely dreading having a math class at 8 a.m. Math is one of my worst subjects ever and I hope I don't fail.
During my last few days off of school I've managed to cross off several items on my to-do list from the last entry. I read a book (good old chick-lit!), made some art (pictures soon!), watched a movie (Helvetica, amazing!), hung out with friends (well, the hubby and my brother), and wrote letters. I also worked, volunteered at a yard-sale fundraiser, painted faces at a BBQ festival, and worked out as much as possible. All in all, a very busy week.
I'm looking forward to class tomorrow. I enjoy new beginnings and starting fresh. Tonight I'm headed out to a coffeeshop and being social. Hopefully, I don't stay out too late.
